Ravadar - Coalition for Religious Equality and Inclusive Development

The Ravadar-Coalition for Religious Equality and Inclusive Development (CREID) which is led by world’s leading Institute for Development Studies (IDS – University of Sussex) provides research evidence and delivers practical programmes to redress the impact of discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief, tackle poverty and exclusion, and promote people’s wellbeing and empowerment. From 2019 to 2023 HIVE Pakistan, has been running this impactful program with a particular focus on minority women from marginalized communities.

The project ran in two prongs;

One was Ravadar Blogs which comprised a series of stories, narratives, and reports providing an in-depth assessment and analysis of the situations faced by Christian, Shia, and Hindu communities in Pakistan. To ensure authentic and nuanced reporting, we recruited reporters directly from these focused communities.

Two, in various religious and sectarian minority communities, HIVE launched development projects aimed at addressing intersectional marginalization, poverty, and discrimination. Through these efforts, HIVE has successfully established Ravadar Committees which are locally led citizen group in seven minority neighborhoods in major cities of Pakistan, i.e. Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

The formation of Ravadar Committees has empowered local leaders to tackle issues of marginalization and discrimination directly within their neighborhoods. In the effort to understand and complement the lived experiences of minority communities in Pakistan, HIVE has conducted research studies in target areas. With a specific focus on women in marginalized communities has ensured that their unique challenges and perspectives are addressed the project impacted over 10,000 lives.

Project Ravadar has created significant awareness and facilitated community-driven solutions to the challenges faced by minority groups in Pakistan. By promoting coalition-building and providing platforms for minority voices, Ravadar has contributed to reducing inequalities and fostering a more inclusive society.
