Peace Rickshaws
The Peace Rickshaw Project was an innovative initiative that used rickshaws as a canvas for peace messaging. The project was implemented by HIVE’s founding organization, the Pakistan Youth Alliance. Through this project, we trained over 250 rickshaw drivers and decorated 250 rickshaws in Karachi and Lahore using traditional creative arts.
The project involved training local rickshaw drivers to act as ambassadors of peace in their communities. These drivers, who regularly interact with a diverse cross-section of society, were equipped with skills in conflict resolution, communication, and environmental awareness.
The project not only enhanced social cohesion by fostering dialogue but also increased the daily income of rickshaw drivers by 30%. Its success earned international recognition, culminating in the Intercultural Innovation Award, which we received at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Competing with 1,200 organizations from around the world, the award highlights the project’s impact in bridging divides and advancing peace building at the grassroots level.
